HVAC Designer Overview

HVAC Designer contains the tools required to draw two-line duct systems within AutoCAD. The system contains a series of toolbars as described below. Currently, the information required to draw the component is prompted at the command line. For some, this is the fastest way to work. In the future, an option will be provided to have the complete system dialog driven. This will result in a single toolbar and a series of dialogs for each type fitting. In addition to the toolbars, the system contains other features in the drop-down menu which are great for designing systems.

Rectangular Ductwork

The rectangular duct tools include functions to draw the duct components, note the duct, hide duct lines, indicate direction of air flow and more. The drawing tools include elbows (at any angle), offsets in plan view, offsets in the vertical plane, ducts turning up, ducts turning down, transitions, taps, and rectangular wyes. All drawing features are included to create lined or unlined supply, return, and exhaust ductwork.

Round Ductwork

The round duct tools include functions to draw the duct components, note the duct, hide duct lines, indicate direction of air flow and more. The drawing tools include short and long radius elbows (at any angle), offsets with selected elbows in plan view, offsets in the vertical plane, ducts turning up, ducts turning down, transitions, wyes, and straight or  conical tees at 90 and 45 degree angles. All drawing features are included to create lined or unlined round supply.

Diffusers, Grilles, and Registers

The outlets include lay-in, surface, round, sidewall, and linear type for floor installation. Flow arrows are provided for supply, return, and exhaust. The runouts are drawn automatically based on your requirements. Simply select the outlet and main trunk and round or rectangular runouts are drawn to your specifications. You define the length of flexible duct, the type of tap to use at the main, and the desired offset angle (if any) from the diffuser.

Ductwork Accessories and Utilities

The HVAC Accessories and Utilities provide the components required to complete the HVAC drawings. The utilities feature duct breaks, end caps, hide duct lines, draw flow arrows, fire dampers, hand dampers, thermostats, and more.
